It's weird to think that by the time the 8th rolls around, we'll already have had the S8 premiere to flip our shit about. I watched a clip and am no longer QUITE SO EXCITED, but I think it was more of a reality check kind of damping than a disappointed kind of damping, ahaha.

If I just, don't pay much attention to spoiler people, then I am still quite excited. I mean its spn so I am braced for the 3 or so terrible eps we are due each season and some.. mm less that consistent plotting/characterization moments. It's what happens with writer teams. IDK. There are advantages to being an easy to please fan.

The Sam stuff is seriously starting to worry me a bit. XP I AM JUST FEELING VERY PROTECTIVE OF HIM. But I figure that my love for him and fandom's love for him will smooth over anything really awkward.

I love a lot of the Sam stuff I've heard, but I am terrified of the fandom reaction to it and so am apprehensive for that reason. That said tho, show has also been.. kinda shitty at Sam's story lines on occasion and at making him really unsympathetic sometimes so I'm nervous too. IDK, wait and see. I just really, really want Sam to have something awesome this season and I won't be able to decide whether he's going to get it until it's probably too late. XD I'm down with what I've heard, too, though only if they actually do something with it. As far as my apprehension goes, I think it does have a lot to do with fandom's already-vehement reaction. Luckily it's not particularly centered on the introduction of X chromosomes, it doesn't seem like, but eeek. I don't mind unsympathetic!Sam so long as the writers are aware that that's what they're putting together. ngl I'd be pretty interested in seeing a Sam who's kind of past the point of being capable of normal sympathy, and seeing what they'd do with that. But again, it's always about the doing!

If there's one thing I wish for this season, it's that they give no fucks and just go with it. I'd rather see something try and fail (lollll) than play it safe any day!

Sometimes I write academic papers with what I call "the fan fic approach." Bad, bad habits, man. I like to tell myself that it makes for invigorating, unfiltered writing, though! (It would also explain why in all my fics every one is always so sleepy! XD)

A minute too soon is too soon! THAT'S MY MOTTO. /O\ (Lol you should have seen me last night. I was submitting papers to journals in a similarly ridiculous fashion; it's a good thing I have no vested interest in any of them or else I'd be a little concerned...)

Life in Russia is good! There have been a few exceptionally frustrating days, but they are few and far between. Sometimes I forget I'm even in a different country; because I've decided as utterly baffling and strange as Russia can be, a lot of it is also quite normal. Obvious statement is obvious, but you know!

Howwwwww is SecretLocale? :DDD Semester going well so far? Have you made friends in your department? Actually, is there housing, or are you renting privately with others? By yourself? What's your favorite thing to eaatttttt, etc.

hahaha my locale is not secret! XD Semester has been going well, though homework... just had a 5-hour problem set session the other day, lol. Renting privately, one roommate; I applied for graduate housing but decided to decline what they assigned me, since it was not that great. My new apartment has two balconies! MY FAVORITE THING TO EAT? $6.99/lb on sale salmon at the supermarket, ZOMG. so good and such a good deal! :D

There are so many museums! We're trying to save most of the museum-ing for winter, when it gets wretched outside, but we've been to the Hermitage twice, to the Kunstkamera, the Zoological Museum, a lot of the baby museums attached to parks, a bunch of Orthodox Cathedrals, the cemetery where Dostoevsky and Tchaikovsky are buried (!)... The public transport is marvelous! I'm so in love with the metro--and while I've never been, the New Englanders on our program have been marveling at how excellent and well-labeled it is, compared to the New York metro. XD We're living with homestays, so much Russian food has been had. It's often fairly typical--potatoes, carrots, smetana (like sour cream but better), cabbage soup, potato soup, mushroom soup, beet soup, beet salad, tomato and cucumber salad, blini, curd cheese (sometimes in heaping platefuls, ack), and tea, and tea, and more tea.

There are also this amazing snacks called сырок (sea-roque, roughly) that are flavored cheesecake-like bites, but creamier. They come in all sorts of flavors, from chocolate to honey to marzipan, and are like 12 cents. AMAZING. *___* I've also discovered that Russia is a land where Scotch tape is $3, and boots can range from 77 cents to hundreds and hundreds of dollars.

Ohhhh, balconies! That's so lovely. Where do they lead out from? A bedroom and the living/kitchen area, or...? And yessssss that salmon sounds amazing. Glad you can live the high life while also being chained to the dungeon that is absurd problem sets. ;)
